Often, yes, especially if it was blotted and not scrubbed. Wool holds onto tannin and dye differently from nylon, so we use wool-safe acidic spotters, moderate temperatures and careful extraction. If the rug has unstable dyes, we test first and tell you what is realistic before treating the stain rather than risking color bleeding.
Tar is an oil, so water and soap only smear it. We dissolve it with a solvent-based spotter, lift the loosened residue with white towels and then rinse and extract the area so no solvent is left behind. Small, fresh tar marks usually come out completely. Tar that has been ground in over weeks may take more than one pass.
On coastal sofas those shadows are usually body oil and sunscreen building up where people sit, rest their heads or put their arms. They are oil stains and need an oil-dissolving pre-treatment before a fabric-appropriate rinse. We check the fabric code first, since some La Jolla upholstery needs low-moisture cleaning to avoid water rings.
Usually not. Strong coastal sunlight bleaches carpet and rug dyes over time, and that pale area is missing color, not added dirt. Cleaning cannot restore it. We point these areas out during our walk-through so you only pay for spots we can actually remove, and we will focus on the true stains elsewhere in the room.
