We have used Imperial Carpet Care service several times throughout the years and they did a great job this time as always. The communication was easy and the service team was very professional. They helped removed some pet and coffee stains that have been there for a couple of years too. Highly recommend and would definitely hire again!

Water damage restoration in Mira Mesa is very often a plumbing-age story. Most of the tract homes in Westview, Lopez Ridge and around Mira Mesa Town Center went up in the 1970s and 1980s, and many still have original copper water lines running under the slab, original shut-off valves and, in some cases, water heaters that have been replaced only once. After forty-plus years, pinhole leaks and slab leaks become common, and the first sign is usually a damp patch of carpet with no obvious cause. Our crew reaches Mira Mesa from Point Loma in about 20 minutes, extracts water with truck-mounted equipment, dries the structure and treats the affected area. The assessment is free. Call 858-688-2246 as soon as possible.

Slab leaks and forty-year-old plumbing in Mira Mesa homes
A slab leak does not announce itself the way a burst hose does. Water escapes from a line buried in or under the concrete and rises slowly into the carpet pad above it, usually in a hallway, a bedroom or along a wall near the kitchen or a bathroom. Homeowners notice a spot that feels cool or warm underfoot, a musty smell, a water heater that seems to run constantly, or a water bill that climbed for no reason. By then the pad may have been wet for days. The first step is a plumber to find and repair or reroute the line; drying cannot finish while water is still feeding the slab.
Once the source is stopped, we map moisture across the room and the rooms next to it, because slab water travels under carpet in directions that do not match the visible stain. We extract, lift carpet where needed to dry the pad and slab, and set up dehumidifiers and air movers. Concrete gives up water slowly, so slab-leak drying often takes longer than a surface spill.
Mira Mesa homes see the other age-related failures too. Original angle stops under sinks and toilets can crack when turned, supply lines harden, and dishwashers and washing machines added over the years are connected with whatever hoses were handy. Townhomes near the Sorrento Valley edge and in Walker Ranch share walls, so a leak next door can show up as damp carpet in your unit. Households here are busy, with families and roommates sharing space, and wet carpet gets walked on. We apply an anti-microbial treatment to affected materials and explain clearly whether carpet and pad can be saved.

Catching plumbing leaks early in a Mira Mesa tract home
- Once a year, turn off every faucet and appliance and watch your water meter for fifteen minutes; if it moves, you likely have a hidden leak.
- Replace original angle stops and hardened supply lines under sinks and toilets before they fail; they are inexpensive compared with a wet bedroom.
- If your water heater runs constantly or you notice a warm spot on the floor, call a plumber to check for a hot-water slab leak.
- Townhome owners should tell neighbors right away about any leak on a shared wall, since water often shows up on the other side first.

Water Damage Restoration in Mira Mesa: FAQs
The plumber rerouted my slab leak. Do I still need drying?
Almost certainly. Rerouting stops new water, but the pad, carpet backing and concrete stay wet for a long time, and a slab can release moisture back into the pad for days. We measure moisture in the carpet, pad and slab and dry until readings are normal, then treat the area to discourage mold and odor.
Why did my carpet get wet in a room with no plumbing?
Water from a slab leak or a leak in an adjacent bathroom or kitchen can travel under carpet and along the slab into neighboring rooms. It often surfaces far from the actual pipe. Moisture mapping shows the full wet area so nothing is left to dry on its own.
Can carpet stay in place during slab-leak drying?
Sometimes the carpet is lifted and folded back so air can reach the pad and slab, then reinstalled once everything is dry. If the pad has broken down or developed odor, it is replaced. Carpet that has been wet for a long time may separate from its backing, in which case replacement is the better choice.
How long does it take for a concrete slab to dry?
Longer than carpet. Concrete holds water deep in the slab and releases it slowly, so drying can take several days depending on how long the leak ran. Dehumidifiers speed it up. We keep checking readings rather than pulling equipment on a set schedule.
