Often yes, if the water came straight from the roof and is extracted quickly, because rainwater that has not crossed soil is usually treated as clean water. Carpet and pad are extracted and dried, and the ceiling and walls above are checked for moisture. Get the roof repaired so the leak does not return in the next storm.
Both, as soon as possible. The roofer stops new water from coming in, and we extract and dry what already got inside. Drying can start before the roof is fixed, but it will not be finished until the leak is stopped. Photograph the stains and wet areas before anything is moved.
It can add odor and push moisture deeper into the pad, but it does not usually change the plan. Keep the dog out of the room during drying. If there are older pet accidents in that area, water can reactivate them, and we will mention it if we notice it during the assessment.
Look for paint bubbling, soft drywall near the floor, baseboards pulling away or a musty smell. Often there are no visible signs yet. Moisture meters are the reliable way to tell, and we check walls near the leak path as part of every assessment.
