Urine salts in the pad or subfloor are hygroscopic, meaning they pull in moisture and release odor in warm, humid conditions. A previous owner may have replaced the carpet without addressing the pad. We check with UV light, treat what we can reach with enzymes and extraction, and tell you plainly if the pad itself needs to go.
Much of it, yes. Smoke leaves an oily film on fibers that holds odor. Hot-water extraction with a solution designed to cut that film removes it from carpet and upholstery. If a home was smoked in for many years, some odor may also come from walls and ceilings, which is outside carpet cleaning, and we will let you know.
A few rooms usually take a couple of hours, including inspection, enzyme dwell time and extraction. Carpets generally dry in 3 to 6 hours. La Mesa's warmer, drier air often helps them dry on the faster end of that range, especially with windows open or the air conditioning running.
